HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE SUMMER HEAT

While Grand Junction is a wonderful little city, we can all admit that it gets pretty hot during the summer. And while the heat can be a nice change from the cooler winters, it’s still a good idea to make sure that you’re prepared for the rapidly rising temperatures that are coming in the next few months. In today’s blog entry, we will give you a few tips about getting ready for the summer heat.

When you’re staying inside, it pays to have good lighting so you can do the things you enjoy. At Once Source Lighting, we have the latest lighting fixtures for every room in your home as well as home accents and ceiling fans. Head on over to our showroom or check out our website to see all of the options that are available.

FIGHT THE HEAT IN THE MORNING

Preparing for the daily heat of the desert starts first thing in the morning. Before the temperature rises, you’ll want to make sure that your windows are closed and that your blinds and shades are drawn. Stopping the sun from getting in will help your air conditioner from having to work overtime to keep your home comfortable, which will save you money and reduce the risk of your AC unit breaking down before the season is over.

Another way you can give your air conditioner a break is by opening some windows overnight and turning off your AC. One of the nice things about Grand Junction is that the nights are nice and cool, so you should use nature’s air conditioner whenever you can!

MAKE SURE YOUR AIR CONDITIONER IS WORKING WELL

Many HVAC companies offer a seasonal tune-up for your air conditioner and furnace. Having a professional inspect and repair your air conditioner before the temperature gets too high is one of the most effective methods for keeping yourself comfortable during the warmest days of the year. These services will also let you know when repairs might be needed and when it might be time to replace your AC unit.

STAY INSIDE WHEN YOU CAN

If you have the opportunity to stay inside, it’s a good idea to do so. But if you do need to go out, make sure you’re covered up with loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing and don’t be stingy with the sunscreen. Bring a water bottle with you everywhere, especially if you’re going hiking, biking, or even going for a walk around your neighborhood.

GET FANS!

Even if your air conditioner is in tip-top shape, your home might still be a little warm or it may feel a little stagnant. If that’s the case, get some fans! At One Source Lighting, we have a variety of fans, including ceiling fans and portable and wall fans that will keep the air moving in your home. Fans are also an excellent way to add a little splash of design to your house. We even have exterior ceiling fans, which are perfect for covered patios.

We hope some of these tips were useful to you.
